• Matt Halfhill’s Top 10 Sneakers of 2009
3 CommentsMatt Halfill, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the online magazine NiceKicks.com, has come together with Complex to create a list that showcases the top sneakers from this past year. Matt Halfhill’s Top 10 Sneakers of 2009 features highly-sought after shoes such as the Nike 1/2 Cent “Royal”, Air Jordan 11 Space Jam, and the Nike Air Foamposite “Eggplant”. It’s definitely a true sneaker head’s list that includes sneakers geared for various sports and lifestyles. However, despite all the great shoe releases from ‘09, Kanye West’s blank/pink Nike Air Yeezy beat out the rest and was able to claim the #1 spot on Halfhill’s list. With reputable outlets and figures, like BusinessWeek and Halfhill, recognizing the collaboration shoe between Kanye and Nike is a reinforcement to the significance the Air Yeezy had on sneaker culture and fashion in 2009.

• Air Yeezy on 100 Best Sneakers of the 2000s
1 CommentWith all the hype and astronomical aftermarket prices that the Nike Air Yeezy commanded during the 3 consecutive months of each colorway’s release, it was only right that the shoe found its way on Complex Magazine’s 100 Best Sneakers of the 2000s list. The Air Yeezy, a collaboration between Kanye West and Nike, was #5 on a list that included some of the most sought-after shoes that have been released in this decade. Some of the shoes that joined the Air Yeezy in the top 10 included the Nike Dunk SB Tiffany, Nike Dunk SB Jedi, Air Max 90 Bacon, and the UNDFTD Air Jordan IV.

• Who Wore it Better- Air Yeezy Edition
24 CommentsComplex is conducting a “Who Wore it Better?” poll to determine who rocked Kanye’s Nike Air Yeezy signature shoe better, Tristan Wilds, Lil Waye, or Soulja Boy. These 3 celebs were specifically chosen because they blended classy, grown man outfits with a sneaker that just screams attention and is the opposite of everything that represents “getting your grown man on.” I don’t know how everyone else feels, but if I think Lil Wayne surely beats Tristan and Soulja Boy. There’s just something about wearing baggy pants with Yeezys that doesn’t look right, and Lil Wayne, at least in this picture, does a pretty good job making sure everything in his outfit is proportional and that all the pieces complement one another. How does everyone else feel?

August 16th, 2009• Jim Jones Disses Kanye and the Air Yeezy
14 CommentsJim Jones spoke to Complex magazine about sneakers and how they were so influential to his life growing up. He mentioned everything from the Adidas Shell-toe to Nike Cortez to the Puma Clyde. At about the 2:30 mark in the video, he says, “There’s a lot of cornballs with their own sneaker that I would never ever wear…” and at the very end he states, ” I have more than a hundred pairs of sneakers, but I didn’t wanna have nothing to do with those,” as the interviewer holds up a pair of the net/net (tan) Nike Air Yeezy. Not everyone believes the Air Yeezy looks good and Jimmy is entitled to his own opinion, but from Jim Jones’ hustler mentality, he should give Kanye credit for being the first non-athlete to hook up with Nike to do a sneaker.

June 15th, 2009• Air Yeezy VS Rocawear Evolution
12 CommentsAfter Kanye West emerged the victor of Style War against Jay-Z, Complex is at it again for another competition between the two. Kanye’s Nike Air Yeezy sneaker VS Jay-Z’s Rocawear R+ Evolution sneaker. The two are the first Hip-Hop artists to release a sneaker in 2009, so this battle makes sense. Besides, who doesn’t enjoy a little sibling rivalry?
