• 2 Year Anniversary of the Black/Pink Nike Air Yeezy
No Comments

Today, May 2, marks the two-year anniversary of the release of the second installment of Kanye West’s Nike Air Yeezy shoe in the black/pink colorway. Considered by many to be the best of the three Air Yeezys, the hype surrounding this shoe quickly began to pick up when Kanye wore them in Keri Hilson’s “Knock You Down” music video, which premiered more than a month before the shoe’s May 2 release date. This sneaker differed from the two other releases with its neoprene material on the upper, the placement of the all-over print “Y” pattern across the back of the shoe, and the solid gray toe cap. With the popularity of this black/pink Air Yeezy and the most recent preview of the black/off-white Air Yeezy 2 at Coachella, it would only be right for the next Kanye and Nike collaboration sneaker to be offered in a predominantly black colorway.

• LRG Backstage with Kanye West at Coachella

LRG hung out backstage with Kanye West at Coachella, and got an up and close look at his new Air Yeezy 2 sneakers. Backstage, Kanye wore two gold chains (most likely his coveted Jesus pieces) over a black tank top, red pants, and the Air Yeezy 2s. Kanye was featured in several LRG ad campaigns dating all the way back to The College Dropout days, so it comes as no surprise that Ye would show the southern California-based brand love when he’s out in their hometown.

• Is This the Air Yeezy 2 “Y” Print?

This past February, the Air Yeezy 2 made a possible first appearance in “The Black Mamba” short film. Now, two months later, this recent discovery might bring us even closer to realizing the existence of an Air Yeezy 2 sneaker. Virgil Abloh, Kanye’s assistant art director and the man behind your favorite Impact-centric G.O.O.D Friday single covers, posted on his blog a closeup of a “Y” print that resembles the one that was featured on the each of the first three Air Yeezy sneakers. While the “Y” print on the initial offering of the Air Yeezys were randomly scattered, this preview shows a more uniform, spaced out arrangement of Ys. The original “Y” print was exclusive to the Nike Air Yeezy project and was never a design mark that Kanye ever used in other creative endeavors—it’s never been featured on album art, marketing materials or collaboration projects that he’s done with other companies. This leads me to believe that the preview of this “Y” print must be in fact Nike-related. What do you think? Is this the Air Yeezy 2 “Y” print? Cast your vote below.

• 2 Year Anniversary of the Nike Air Yeezy (Zen Grey)

This upcoming Monday marks the two-year anniversary of the release of Kanye West’s Nike Air Yeezy in the zen grey colorway. Even though the shoes were released back in 2009, the value and the hype of the shoe don’t appear to have subsided. Owners of the Air Yeezy still charge upwards of $1000 to buyers for a pair, while others are still scouring eBay and sneaker forums for their appropriate size. In fact, with last month’s preview of the Air Yeezy 2, the demand for the original Air Yeezy has increased. The first offering of any exclusive item is typically the most valuable, and with the Air Yeezy, it is no exception. This shoe goes down in history as the first pair of sneakers that Nike has ever done with a non-athlete and is deserving of all the attention that it’s received.

So two years later, have you already got a pair of the zen grey Air Yeezys, or are you still looking?

• Kanye Signs Air Yeezy Shoes
1 Comment

With all the talk and rumors of a possible Air Yeezy 2 release from Kanye West and Nike, it’s easy to just forget about the original Air Yeezy shoe from 2009. For one lucky fan, though, he made sure to keep his Air Yeezys on-hand when Kanye walked out of a New York hotel last week and signed the fan’s Air Yeezy shoes. In the photo, the fan is holding the black/pink Air Yeezys in his left hand, as Kanye dawns a fur coat and signs the second shoe, the zen gray Air Yeezys.
