Yesterday, Kanye West shared the story behind his fashion career on Twitter. As told in his series of tweets, he started off in fashion eight years ago, from turning down initial offers to do urban clothing lines to unsuccessfully begging Bape to do his own line. From there, he told his story of how he got his start in high-end fashion, studying in Europe at famed fashion labels Fendi and Giuseppe Zanotti, and opening his own design studio in Paris. He also shared that at Nike, he’s “allowed” to design one pair of sneakers every two years, meaning the “Yeezi 3″ that he mentioned last week would be due out in 2014. Below are the tweets from last night.

• Kanye West’s Sneakers Backstage at Watch the Throne Tour
5 Comments

For the past month, VOYR has provided exclusive backstage footage of Kanye West and Jay-Z’s Watch the Throne tour. Before the start of the duo’s concert, VOYR even shared a video on their website that showed someone skating in a pair of the black/pink Air Yeezy 2. In episode 1 of their concert documentary, “World Leaders,” there is a scene where you can see an array of what we can only assume are Kanye’s sneakers. Even though we’ve only seen ‘Ye wearing the black/pink Air Yeezy 2s on stage during the concert, you can see in the screenshot gray Air Yeezy 2s, Timberland 6″ wheat boots, white cement Air Jordan 3s, and the Louis Vuitton Don collaboration shoes.

• Turn Back Thursday: Kanye West at the Glow in the Dark Tour
3 Comments

Now that Kanye West is on the road for the Watch the Throne tour, let’s go back to 2008 for his last major concert series, the Glow in the Dark tour. I took this photo of Kanye when he was sitting atop of what was supposed to be a mountain on a desert planet, while back-up vocals were performing Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing”. Little did I know that the very sneakers he was performing in would have a such a huge impact on the sneaker community the following year. Dubbed the Fire Red Air Yeezy, it would turn out that these were samples exclusively for ‘Ye’s Glow in the Dark tour. Three years later, Kanye’s now touring with Jay-Z and previewing the Air Yeezy 2 to the delight of select concertgoers who vividly remember seeing Kanye wear the original Yeezys back in ’08.

• All Glow-in-the-Dark Air Yeezy Spotted at “Back for the Future”

Nike designer Tiffany Beers wore an all glow-in-the-dark pair of the first Air Yeezy shoe at Friday’s Nike Mag “Back for the Future” auction at the Montalban Theatre in Hollywood. The glow-in-the-dark prototype was originally featured in Issue 29 of Sole Collector magazine. If you recall, the black Air Yeezys that Kanye West wore at the 2008 Grammy Awards covered this issue. It’s clear that there are certain elements of the Nike Mag that influenced Kanye’s shoe, and Beers, who worked on both sneakers, chose an appropriate event to showcase this seldom seen Air Yeezy prototype.
