• Turn Back Thursday: Ice Cream Sweater and Air Yeezy Shoes
4 CommentsTwo year ago in 2008, when Kanye West was set to release his 4th solo album at the time, 808s & Heartbreak, he stopped by Power 106 in Los Angeles to do promotion and conduct some interviews. During his visit, Kanye could be spotted wearing a gray Ice Cream crewneck sweater and net/net (tan) Nike Air Yeezy shoes. The Ice Cream crewneck sweater, part of Pharrell’s season 4 collection, was first previewed in May 2007 and the Air Yeezys were the last release of the Air Yeezy trilogy that dropped in June 2009.

• Turn Back Thursday: Pastelle Hoodie
2 CommentsTurn Back Thursday for this month reveals Kanye West wearing a hoodie from his now-defunct clothing line, Pastelle. When this specific advertisement was released, it was originally believed that Kanye’s clothing line would be called Mascott and would feature the Dropout Bear from his debut album, The College Dropout, as the brand’s logo. Mascott proved to be nothing but rumors and Pastelle (later changed to Past Tell Museum im 2008) became one of the most anticipated clothing lines from a rap artist. No matter what you referred to it as, the brand never made its way to retail stores and it was eventually revealed that Pastelle would never be released.

• Turn Back Thursday: Bape “Sta” Hoodie
1 CommentFor September’s edition of Turn Back Thursday, we bring it back to 2008 when Kanye didn’t have the Rosewood Movement and could be spotted wearing mostly high-end street wear on a day-to-day basis. The images below reveal Kanye wearing a Bape “Sta” hoody with the brand’s distinguished lightning bolt star, typically found on their footwear collection. At this point in ’08, the all-over print was essentially out of fashion and “played out,” but if there was any brand that could pull off an all-over print on their garments, leave it to the Japanese-based brand. Kanye is wearing an original release below, but since the first Bape “Sta” hoodies dropped, there have been several different versions that have come out, including one with gold-foil print and a city edition where each Bape flagship location sold the hoodie in a unique colorway.

• Turn Back Thursday: Kanye’s 2007 GQ Magazine Cover
No CommentsWith the whole Rosewood Movement Kanye West has going on right now, it’s appropriate for August’s Turn Back Thursday to take a look back at Kanye’s GQ Magazine cover after being selected as one of their Men of the Year for 2007. The black suit, white shirt, and black skinny tie are all from Calvin Klein’s Calvin Klein Collection, which is the company’s high-end line. Kanye has definitely never shied away from suits, but it will be interesting to see the direction of the entire Rosewood Movement. In the past, when wearing suits, it might have just been appropriate for the occasion, whereas the Rosewood Movement may be representative of an entire culture and lifestyle. No matter the purpose, this GQ magazine cover and its photos of Kanye, prove you can never go wrong with a nice suit.

• Turn Back Thursday: Kanye x Clot x Fragment x Base Control T-shirt
No CommentsIn 2006, when Kanye West’s “Touch the Sky” tour hit Hong Kong, a special collaboration t-shirt that included brands Clot, Fragment, and Base Control was created specifically for the show. Appropriately enough, the artist who opened for Kanye, Edison Chen, is the owner of the Hong Kong-based brand Clot and has worked with other reputable brands that Kanye has associated with, such as Bape and Nike. The t-shirt features the infamous Dropout Bear logo in between Clot and Fragment’s logo. Below is a photo of Kanye wearing the collaboration t-shirt.
