• Turn Back Thursday: Kanye West at the Glow in the Dark Tour

Now that Kanye West is on the road for the Watch the Throne tour, let’s go back to 2008 for his last major concert series, the Glow in the Dark tour. I took this photo of Kanye when he was sitting atop of what was supposed to be a mountain on a desert planet, while back-up vocals were performing Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing”. Little did I know that the very sneakers he was performing in would have a such a huge impact on the sneaker community the following year. Dubbed the Fire Red Air Yeezy, it would turn out that these were samples exclusively for ‘Ye’s Glow in the Dark tour. Three years later, Kanye’s now touring with Jay-Z and previewing the Air Yeezy 2 to the delight of select concertgoers who vividly remember seeing Kanye wear the original Yeezys back in ’08.

• Turn Back Thursday: Kanye Wears Pastelle Hoodie

After Kanye West debuted his womenswear collection at Paris Fashion Week last Saturday, it brought back memories of all that could have been with his first foray into fashion—Yeezy’s now-defunct Pastelle clothing line. After promising pieces that included varsity jackets, button-up shirts, and hoodies were previewed, Kanye decided to put a surprising halt on the production of Pastelle in late 2009. His clothing never hit retail shelves, but fans were able to get a glimpse of his brilliance in fashion through collaboration projects with Nike, Louis Vuitton, and M/M (Paris). In looking back at Pastelle, this month’s Turn Back Thursday takes us to Paris Fashion Week 2008 where Kanye was spotted front row at the Dior fashion show wearing a full-zip Pastelle hoodie.

• Turn Back Thursday: Glow in the Dark Tour Poster

To commemorate this week’s presale of Jay-Z and Kanye West’s upcoming Watch the Throne tour, this month’s Turn Back Thursday highlights Kanye’s last concert series — his “Glow in the Dark” tour in 2008. In this tour poster, an illustrated Kanye wears a pair of the infamous shutter shades. The sunglasses, which Kanye had custom made from high-end eyewear designer Alain Mikli, made its debut in the “Stronger” music video and soon became synonymous with the Graduation era.

With all the talk about Kanye West and Jay-Z’s collaborative album Watch the Throne, it was only right for this month’s Turn Back Thursday to include two of hip-hop’s giants. In this 2008 photo, Kanye is seen rocking a black Moncler ‘Tibet’ vest and Air Jordan ‘Aqua’ 8 sneakers as he sits courtside with Hov and Beyonce. Their album is due in August 2 and you can pre-order online on WatchTheThrone.com

• Turn Back Thursday: Kanye Spotted in a Kamiakin Braves Varsity Jacket

Kanye West is no stranger when it comes to varsity jackets. No matter the season, there’s a good chance you’ll find Yeezy rocking this classic outerwear piece in spite of what might be the latest fashion trend. For the June edition of Turn Back Thursday, we bring you back two years to 2009 where Kanye wore a Kamiakin Braves varsity jacket on BET. We never discovered how Kanye got his hands on this original varsity jacket that comes from Kamiakin High School in the city of Kennewick, but it appears to be in great condition and is a good look for both Kanye and the Braves.
