• Turn Back Thursday: Kanye Wearing Bandana
4 Comments

In Turn Back Thursday #3 I discussed the emergence of the all-over print hoodie that took the fashion industry by storm in 2006/2007. Another staple that complemented the all-over print trend during those 2 years was the bandana. If I’m not mistaken, I believe Pharrell was the one that started the entire trend and made it “cool”  to rock one as part of your daily outfit. Even Kanye West caught on and started wearing a variety of multi-colored bandanas. Whether it was a Louis Vuitton rag or some vintage thrift store-inspired find (most likely the former), Kanye wore the bandana with much swag at shows, music videos, magazine photoshoots, and random public appearances. Here’s a photo from 2006 of Kanye rocking a teal/orange bandana at the Karmaloop flagship store in Boston. Speaking of Louis rags, check Don C on the right with the Murakami LV print.

How many of you rocked bandanas back then? Leave a comment and let me know!

• Franalations Shows the Jasper’s
4 Comments

Franaltions already showed his Louis Vuitton Don’s and is now back with his video for the Jasper’s. Again, pictures online do not justify the quality and attention to detail put into this collaboration between Kanye West and Louis Vuitton. There’s a specific reason these sneakers retail for $1,000+ and I think the excitement from Franalations in the video says it all.

• Who Wore it Better- Air Yeezy Edition
24 Comments

Complex is conducting a “Who Wore it Better?” poll to determine who rocked Kanye’s Nike Air Yeezy signature shoe better, Tristan Wilds, Lil Waye, or Soulja Boy. These 3 celebs were specifically chosen because they blended classy, grown man outfits with a sneaker that just screams attention and is the opposite of everything that represents “getting your grown man on.” I don’t know how everyone else feels, but if I think Lil Wayne surely beats Tristan and Soulja Boy. There’s just something about wearing baggy pants with Yeezys that doesn’t look right, and Lil Wayne, at least in this picture, does a pretty good job making sure everything in his outfit is proportional and that all the pieces complement one another. How does everyone else feel?

• Turn Back Thursday: Kanye Wearing Baggy Clothes
9 Comments

Before Kanye West wore Pastelle, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Bape, and Polo, he was a modestly-dressed man who was simply trying to get into the music industry. Here’s the Get Well Soon mixtape cover of Kanye back in 2003 with an extremely different look from what the general public has grown to appreciate (or hate) these days. Roughly 6 years have passed since the release of this mixtape and within those 6 years, Kanye has traded in the baggy clothes for a more fitted look that accompanies high-end fashion labels and street wear brands. Fashion critics may say Kanye simply jumped the fitted clothing bandwagon, but I would disagree. Everyone has that fashion evolution in their lives where they expand their horizons and become more open to certain lifestyles, which is what prompted Kanye’s fashion transformation. Whether you believe it was a fashion change for the better or worse, one thing is undeniable–Kanye has become one of the most influential fashion icons in the past 6 years.

• Spike Jonze Short Film
3 Comments

Back in January, we posted a picture of Kanye West and Nick Tershay on the set of a short film directed by Spike Jonze. Well now, the much-anticipated short film will be released on September 8th for all to purchase via Itunes. Originally, the short film was going to be the official music video for Kanye’s See You In My Nightmares, but apparently that has now changed. If you’re familiar with Jonze’s work, this should turn out remarkable. Add that to the fact that Kanye is extremely great with presentation and delivering a product (see his music videos and live performances), I’m certain this will not disappoint.
